Vegetables Recipes - Have you found yourself in a grocery store staring blankly at an ingredients label making every attempt to translate the complex naming and numbering system used to denote additives? This can be especially frustrating for vegetarians and vegans who are trying to determine if that box of delicious munchies they have their eyes on contains animal products. Thankfully a new application called Vegetarian Scanner developed by Mello Apps Limited alleviates this aggravation once and for all.*
Vegetarian Scanner enables users to snap photos of an ingredients label utilizing the iPhone’s camera. It will then automatically scan and determine if the ingredients are vegetarian friendly without the need of a network connection. The Vegetarian Scanner performs all of its functions entirely on the iPhone itself.
The Halal Scanner, another app created by Mello Apps Limited, was the motivation behind the development of the Vegetarian Scanner. Both applications decipher the seemingly esoteric e-numbering system, the codes found on food labels that define additives.
“The problem we were trying to solve was that of halal e-numbers. When we go out shopping we come across e-numbers in many food products. These numbers confused me as I am sure it has others. So we set out to build Halal Scanner,” explained developer Faizal Mohammed. "Once we completed Halal Scanner, we ported our app to Vegetarian Scanner and that is how the app was born.”
When asked if Vegetarian Scanner would be available for other platforms, namely Android, Mohammed replied, “We've been asked this numerous times so it shows there may be a demand for it but we have no plans for an Android version. We are so busy promoting our existing apps for now. But this may change depending on the success of Vegetarian Scanner.”
So presently that means you need an iPhone 3GS , iPod touch, iPhone 2G or iPhone 3G to enjoy this innovative new application. Full features are available on the iPhone 3GS only. The Vegetarian Scanner is available exclusively in the Health & Fitness category of the App Store for $1.99.
